Starbucks Latte Abuse!
I think I saw the worst case of "Latte Abuse" EVER today…
Here’s the deal.
I had a great workout myself after running our boot camp this AM. But then I had an appointment to get to — I initially thought I’d have enough time to get home, make my favorite smoothie, and still make it there with time to spare.
But the workout took a little longer than anticipated.
Knowing my appointment would be about 60 minutes, I needed to get some food in me … I was really hungry!
I look to the right of my gym. Whole Foods. Unfortunately they were still closed because chocolate milk would have been perfect.
Then I remembered there is a Starbucks right down the street.
While they have some horrible options, loaded with added sugar and fat, they’ve done a decent job adding some better options to their menu lately.
And now most Starbuck’s offer oatmeal. I had them add a scoop of protein powder that they use for another product, added the raw nuts to the mix, and I had a nice combo of fiber, protein, and healthy fat.
Perfect.
So what is the fastest way to GAIN fat?
I’m was waiting for them to prepare my oatmeal and the guy next to me ordered a Venti something or other, with whole milk and TWELVE PUMPS (normally the Venti adds 5, which is about 100 calories) in his gigantic 20 oz drink. In otherwords, in syrup alone this guy had a Large fries equivalent of calories! Add in the couple cups of whole milk and this morning routine was easily packing a wholloping 800 calories in sugar and fat.
So that, my friends, is the fastest way to gain fat … start your morning each day with a drink like that.
While that was a bit extreme, even a daily latte habit will add up.
If Starbucks (or any coffee shop) is a daily routine for you — enjoy some tea and straightforward coffee. EVEN if you do add your own sugar, 9 times out of 10, it’s still better than your traditional latte…
Or what I call Latte Abuse!

So what about a latte with non fat milk and sugar free syrup?
If you happen to like $4 coffee that is.

It’s definitely BETTER in terms of calories, sugar and fat. Maybe not better for your wallet, though.
