Busy Mom’s Guide to Fat Burning Snacks
School is in session. In Kentucky schools started months ago. In other parts of the country they’re just warming up and getting ready.
Regardless, though, busy school schedules means moms and dads are going to be running around like chickens with their heads cut off. And when people get busy, one of the first "changes" they make in their lives is either A) eliminating exercise and/or B) eating junkier foods and snacks.
…and it seems as if women (stay at home moms in particular) who plan to spend their days running errands after dropping off their kiddos, get buried with "life" and struggle to find the balance of eating well and maintaining an exercise program.
And the questions roll in to us as they’re chomping at the bit to get every bit of "belly fat fighting" strategy we can share.
So let’s start with snacking strategies. Because we always recommend a few larger meals with some fat burning snacks throughout the day.
But we’re turning the tides this time …
…and asking YOU for your 3 favorite "must have" snacks (and you don’t have to be a mom to answer…or a woman for that matter). Those that keep you full, are satisfying, and fulfill a need…
…a need to burn fat!
In the Mohr House, here are our 3 top choices:
- Greek yogurt
- Raw nuts
- Hummus
It would be rare if you walked into our house and didn’t see these 3 foods in our refrigerator or pantry.
What are your 3 go to foods?

In addition to the ones you mention, we also have Baba Ghannouj in the O'Dea household ALWAYS. We love it and our son does too! There is one at Whole Foods by Oasis Mediterranean Cuisine that contains 31 calories, 1.5 fat grams, and 1gram of fiber per serving (2 Tablespoons). And in case you are wondering, the ingredients are Eggplant, Sesame Tahini, Chick Peas, water, fresh lemon, fresh garlic, and sea salt. Yummy!

Regarding the Baba Ghannouj, do you eat it plain or put it on something. If you put it on something what do you suggest.?
String cheese and soy nuts are a couple of my snacks.

One of our family snack favorites anytime of the day or easy to pack to go is "cleaned up" PB&J
2 slices Ezekiel Bread (toasted) you can use rye or any hearty whole grain bread
2 Tbsp natural nut butter (our favorite is almond butter)
3 -5 fresh sliced strawberries (The pampered chef egg slicer is great for perfect strawberry slices)

Hi Tim,
Here’s that “ice cream ” recipe.
1C cottage cheese (I use 1% no salt added….Friendship brand)
1 scoop choc or vanilla protein powder ( I have only used choc)
2T almond butter or natural peanut butter or a combo
1/4C unsweet choc or vanilla almond milk
1/4 tsp cinnamon if desired
Stevia to taste
Blend cottage cheese til smooth. Add powder, and rest of ingredients. Blend til smooth.
Put into indiv dishes and freeze. Thaw slightly before eating.
Top with unsweet coconut or any other favorite topping (clean eating approved)……great with some homemade raspberry sauce or just plain berries.
I usually get approx 4 servings…..and use the small ramikins.
Hope you like it.
Dianne

2. Air Popped Popcorn
3. Cauliflower/green beans/broccoli/okra/carrots/tomatoes, just about anything from the garden, fresh and no fat added. Just plain ole good fresh veggies from the garden.

Julia – Regarding the Baba Ghannouj, I dip veggies in it like you would Hummus. We also use it in wraps. Or, for my son, he likes to dip Whole Wheat Lavash in it (also found at Whole Foods) or pita bread.

1- Clementine oranges and raw almonds
2- banana and almond butter
3- sliced cucumber and hummus
…have you (or anyone else) have an opinion on Shakeology? My best friend is always raving about it as her go-to snack but I am a little skeptical.

Love all the ideas mentioned, my favorites are:
1. sliced apple with orangic peanut butter
2. pepper slices with hummus
3. orange slices with 2 hard boiled egg whites
And I make my daughters a snack baggie filled with raw almonds, dried cranberries, and a couple sunflower seeds for them to snack on after school and just before their sporting practice.
