7 Easy High Energy Foods

Admit it, you’ve had that afternoon slump …

Maybe the morning slump too.

The quick choice is usually a soda, energy drink, or maybe daily latte.

A woman who just started in our boot camp told me she normally drinks 3 – 20 oz diet Mt. Dews and 3 large lattes every single day.

Aside from being a serious calorie bomb of junk filled calories, that’s a heck of a lot of caffeine.

Instead, you want to focus on calorie light, yet nutrient high foods …let’s take a look at 7 foods guaranteed to keep your energy high all day without breaking the calorie bank!

  1. Blueberries — one of the highest nutrient foods out there, blueberries are a perfect low calorie, high nutrient food — add a handful to raw nuts and enjoy.
  2. Raw nuts — not only is there a ton of data showing how eating 1 oz of raw nuts daily can boost fat loss, but they’re a perfect morning or afternoon snack when you’re at the office trying to keep that energy rolling through the day.
  3. Unsweetened dried fruit – while higher in sugar since it’s a concentrated form of "regular" fruit, this is a high nutrient boost — don’t have this alone, mix it with raw nuts (2/3 nuts to 1/3 dried fruit).
  4. Wild salmon — loaded with omega-3′s and protein, a serving of this is a great way to fuel your body.  Add some to salad or have it as the main course of dinner.
  5. Hummus — loaded with fiber and protein, hummus is a perfect snack — dip some veggies in there.
  6. Cottage cheese – mix in some blueberries (or your other favorite fruit) and you’ve got a perfect high protein, low fat snack!
  7. Water – OK, OK — this has zero calories so it doesn’t give you energy like calories do, BUT, when you’re dehydrated, your mental and physical performance will suffer.  Drink until your urine looks like pale lemonade and remember that hunger is often mistaken for thirst, so drink up and then decide if you’re actually hungry.
  8. BONUS TIP — not diet related, but exercise related.  Get up and move for a quick 10 minutes in the afternoon — anyone will start to get glass eyed when sitting in the same position staring at the same computer screen ALLLLLL DAY.

Try any of these 8 tips for a super simple energy boost any day of the week … your body and mind will love your for it!

What do you think about FRS, the quercitin and B vitamin enhanced energy drink Lance promotes? Have you checked it out? It’s low sugar and low caffeine. Helps me focus after a short night or lunchtime sinking spell.

Data isn’t impressive on quercetin. Will it hurt? Nope — but it’s certainly no magical drink.
