6 “Weird” Little Diet Tips

There’s nothing that surprises us anymore.

After working with 1000′s of people to help them lose weight, we’ve literally heard it all.

Today we thought we share some of our favorite "diet" ideas/statements/questions we’ve heard from various clients over the years …

  1. I have been following a no carb diet and ran out of ideas, but I found that combining spoonfuls of real butter with peanut butter and crushed peanuts is an awesome snack!
  2. Overweight Professional Football Player "I made a great choice — got some sushi tonight."  Chris "How much did you have?"  Player "5 shrimp tempura & 5 fried soft shell crab rolls."  Chris "Do you know eating 8 Big Macs would be less calories?"
  3. My trainer told me carbs aren’t good, but does that mean I can’t drink ANY juice?
  4. Client with diabetes at Canyon Ranch Spa — "I need ideas for when I have breakfast meetings because I always end up eating the pastries."  Kara "How about a piece of fruit?"  Client — "I have diabetes and fruit has too much sugar."
  5. Switching from regular Coke to Cherry Coke to bump up fruit intake
  6. A client heard "carbs were bad" so as a fan of eating SPAM regularly, he switched out his normal bread for sandwiches and would have his turkey and cheese on a "Spam Bun"

So while some of these may have been surprising and somewhat funny, we’re calling out clients for rationalizing behaviors, not laughing at them for their questions or choices.

Are you rationalizing YOUR daily choices?

Rationalize = Rational Lies you tell yourself

These are great. Thanks for the useful tips Chris. Unfortunately, not everbody lives by these wonderful words of advice. I mean, switching to Cherry Coke to increase fruit intake?? GENIUS!!

    (dripping with sarcasm).

In seriousness, this is the world we live in where people know next to nothing about their food intake. What they don’t realize is that weight loss is simple, but it isn’t easy.

    Thanks for the blog Chris.

One thing I have done for years…. its my demise BACK to ‘fat’ everytime, year after year…. I never realize its what I was doing until its too late and I’ve gained back what I worked hard to loose…. I’m a “sneeker eater”. I sneek food. Often its chewed and swollow’d before I realize it….. Like if no one sees me eat it, it won’t count or matter. Sometimes I subconciously say to myself… ‘I had a reasonable amount of good food on my plate.’ But its my second meal !
Such a tuff habit to break.
Self awareness has been a hard thing to learn, and I’m still far from even just being good at it. Self concious… is that what we are when we are not aware?

I’ve got to admit … Back when I was a kid, when given a choice between cake and pie, I’d go with the pie to “bump up fruit uptake.” I love that Diet Coke to Cherry Coke story!

At Wendy’s I substitute the fries for a side salad, thereby negating the double cheeseburger and medium chocolate frosty that go with it.
