3 Unique Fat Burning Snacks

I was on a short trip to Nashville last week – quick overnight business trip.

Fortunately I missed all the flooding in the area!healthy snacks

Nashville is just about 2 ½ hours or so from here, so since I ate before I left, I wasn’t planning on bringing food…

…brewed my tea for the road, had my bottle of water, and I was on my way.

And I had to eat my own words – "when you fail to plan, plan to fail!"

What was supposed to be a short 2 ½ hour drive was made much longer with traffic – an accident closed the highway to just 1 lane and I was stuck.  And over 4 hours later I actually made it to my hotel.

Starving!

Unfortunately now it was also 10 PM and my only options near the hotel were fast food restaurants.

What to do, what to do? (luckily I found a convenience store and got a bag of mixed nuts that worked for the night).

So the first lesson here is to listen to your own advice – never knowing what life will throw at you, it’s important to plan all the time!

But sometimes the same old snacks get BOOORING…

…so here are 3 Unique Fat Burning Snacks that will help you stick to your goals and not be stuck without food, like I was.

Adobe Roasted Chick Peas (great for traveling)
Open a can of chick peas (AKA garbanzo beans)
Drain and rinse beans, dry with a paper towel.
Add about 1 TBS of olive oil to a pan and heat over medium heat.
Add beans, sprinkle with salt, pepper, and adobe chili powder (or regular chili powder if you’d prefer).
Saute about 15 minutes, tossing every few minutes, until somewhat browned.

Almond Butter and “Jelly” Sans Bread (not easy for travel, but a smart snack)
1 cup mixed berries, lightly mashed
1 TBS almond butter (works better than peanut butter)
1 TBS unsweetened coconut flakes
Toss all together in a bowl and enjoy.

Green Goodness
Split an avocado in half, remove nut
Mix ½ can of canned salmon in a bowl with Dijon mustard, cracked black pepper, and parsley
Add to center of avocado and enjoy

I just made the Green Goodness for my afternoon snack (but used tuna instead of salmon, because that's what I had on hand) and it totally rocked!! In fact, it was sooooo good that I used those same three recipes on my blog, http://www.fungirlfitness.com, giving the great Drs. Mohr total credit, of course! Thanks Chris and Kara for sharing your knowledge and awesome recipes!

I would love to buy adobe chili powder.  Can you recommend a brand I can look for?

    Thanks

I actually got this at a local food store that sells bulk herbs and seasonings. I have seen this at our local supermarket too–can’t recall what brand, though. Regular chili powder is great too, though!
