Food Pyramid Being Replaced

The Food Pyramid has long been recognized by children, parents, and educators as the "model" for how Americans should eat.

One problem.

The Food Pyramid needed a MAJOR overhaul.  While it got a "face lift" in 2005, in our opinion it still wasn’t enough.  It needed to focus more on quality.  And let’s look at REAL pictures of food in real portions, not colored blocks on a triangle.

food pyramid being replacedApparently many people agree with us.  In fact, enough people agree with us that the original Pyramid is not just getting redone, but it’s completely changing shapes.

The Food Pyramid is becoming a Circle — The New Food Plate (well, we’re not sure that’s what it’s called, but it works)

Makes sense.  When we eat, we eat off a plate.  Nine times out of 10, the plate is a circle too.

So a plate of food recommendations certainly makes A LOT more sense.

Now, the actual specifics won’t be revealed until tomorrow, but rumors have been circulating.

Whenever we give talks and provide simple nutrition strategies for permanent success, we always suggest the plate method.

Divide your plate in half.  Then, divide one of those halves into half again.

Fill the big half with veggies and fruit.  EVERY MEAL.

Fill one of the 2 remaining pieces with lean protein, like wild salmon or grilled chicken.

Fill the final piece with some type of grain — quinoa, barley, sweet potato, etc.

Straightforward.  Effective.  And people get it.

Hopefully the newly revealed plate uses the same approach!

Eating clean shouldn’t be difficult.  Follow the method above at each and every meal and you’ll be well on your way to permanent success, whether that means losing fat, gaining health, or keeping weight that’s already lost off your body.

More details to come when the new "Plate" is revealed.

Health Care Reform or OBESITY REFORM?

Health care reform is all the talk these days …

… but since health care costs are at the top of everyone’s minds, maybe we should instead invest that same money into OBESITY REFORM.

A brand new study just released suggests obesity related illness costs the US $147 billion/year, or nearly 10% of all health care spending!

Why doesn’t Congress and the Obama Administration take time out to discuss prevention of this disease? That may actually get us somewhere and make a dent in the iceberg.

Talking about Health Care Reform without touching the prevention of such diseases is like switching seats on the Titanic … titanic-sinking

… it’s a losing situation.

Am I totally off base? Let me know — leave a comment and “weigh in” (bad pun, fully intended) on this crisis in America!

Tomorrow we’ll be back with very specific strategies to combat this disease — without weight loss pills, without weight loss gimmicks, and without asking you to do endless hours of exercise .
