January
15, 2007 - Goal Setting
Are you still on track with your goals you set for January 1? It
seems strange that I would ask this so soon into the New Year, but
over the last week or so I have had a significant amount of emails
from folks saying they have fallen off track wondering what they
can do.
I love setting goals and do so regularly, but it’s also important
to keep in mind it will never be an exact straight line to the endpoint. Think
of the path to your destination as a flight—airlines can pinpoint
the time you’ll arrive at your destination to the minute, but
they need to continue to adjust their course through the trip, depending
on weather, turbulence, etc. The “bad weather” and “turbulence” is
like you falling off track; it doesn’t mean you have to give
up, though; you just need to make sure you have the end in site so
you can reach your destination.
For example, in our weight loss programs in
Louisville and with our distance coaching clients, we have everyone
set goals from day one and do so on a daily basis. This keeps
the final goal (destination) in the forefront of your mind so you
are doing something every single day to work towards (or away from)
your goal. Our RESULTS participants
know that we never expect perfection. We know the their individual “turbulence” on
the way to their destination will happen - together, though, we can
navigate our way around each situation to ultimately help them reach
their weight loss goals.
Here’s another great way to get back on track or just help
you reach your goal in the first place. If you’re not
in the Louisville area and involved in the RESULTS weight loss program,
check out the Discovery
Health Channel’s National Body Challenge. I created
the entire nutrition component of this National Body Challenge -
it’s 8 weeks of meal plans, recipes, shopping lists, and loads
of other great, healthy tips.
No matter what you're looking to achieve, keep up the fantastic
work, continue setting goals, and always remember that you have 1
of 2 options each and everyday: you either do things that bring you
towards your goal or you do things that take you away from them. Which
would you prefer?
Stay tuned to next time, when I sit down with LL Cool J's trainer,
Dave "Scooter" Honig, to get the inside scoop on how LL
got in the best shape of his life. In the meantime, you can
check out the book they co-authored and I consulted on LL
Cool J's Platinum Workout.
Best of Health!
Chris
