Wounded Warrior Project in “Action”

I’m really excited to share this with you today …

It’s from someone I met several months ago at an Under Armour event.  And his story is what inspired me to put together this event to support the Wounded Warrior Project.  I had the chance to catch up with him to let him share his story.

"My name is Bryan Wagner. I am 24 years old. I enlisted in the Army February of 2006 when I was 20 years old.

We deployed to Baghdad, Iraq in September of 2007.  I was in the country for about 10 weeks before my truck got blown up. It was December 17th, 2007. Luckily I was the worst injured out of all the guys.  I lost my right leg.

My life obviously changed dramatically by the fact that I lost my leg, but I really don’t have a hard time dealing with the fact that for the rest of my life I have to use a prosthesis.  But you know what, I lost buddies over there, so there is no reason to bitch and moan about my leg.  And honestly, I am more active now that I have lost it than I was before. I surf, snowboard, wakeboard, ride my dirt bike, hunt, fish, play football, basketball, baseball. I do everything. You can’t let something small like losing a limb stand in your way of achieving awesomeness (yes that is a word).  I think a lot of Vets who have been over there let the war and their injuries define their life.

Disability is only a state of mind — it doesn’t define me.

My first introduction with Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) was when I was at Walter Reed.  One of the guys from WWP came in with a back pack and just sat down and talked to me.  I would always have celebrities come in. They would take a picture with me, say the cliché "thank you for your service" always without making eye contact, and then go to the next room.  When the people from WWP would come in they would just sit down and bull shit with me.  It was awesome to talk about something different than the war, my injuries, or how many of my brothers I lost over there.

I honestly think that without WWP I would fall back into doing drugs, not doing anything with my life, and I would just be rotting from the inside out. I am the dude I am today because of Wounded Warrior Project."
