Obesity = Lower Productivity
We’re always talking about strategies to help with fat loss — from nutrition to training to behavioral modifications. Well, here’s just one of the many reasons we’re fighting so hard to help people get their weight under control …
Being overweight and obese aren’t just bad for your health, another study just came out showing being obese may make it harder to do your job.
Researchers surveyed nearly 11,000 employees at 49 different companies.
Compared to those who were "normal weight," the obese workers in the study were 66% more likely to have missed between 10 and 24 days of work due to being sick or have other health problems in the previous year. They were 55% more likely to have missed 25 or more days!
But here’s the other interesting part — when obese employees WERE at work, they were more likely to say they were 30% less productive than they thought they should be.
There are of course a lot of pieces to this puzzle — exercise and eating the right foods also boost productivity. Subsequently, physical inactivity and eating junk lends itself to lower productivity. Those habits also can lead to being overweight and obese.
