7 Belly Fat Busting Strategies

Losing belly fat isn’t impossible.  But there surely are some "tricks" that can make it more simple.

The thought of dieting to lose belly fat is crazy — who wants to focus on everything you CAN’T eat?

Instead, these belly fat blasting tricks are focused on all the simple, positive things you CAN do to still lose belly fat FAST!

Ready?

1.  Decrease the size of your plates — switch up your dinner plates for smaller, snack plates.  Same with your bowls.  Guaranteed you’ll eat less.

2.  Use smaller serving utensils and eating utensils.
Ever tried eating with chopsticks?  You go much more slowly — same idea when your fork or spoon is smaller.  And when you can’t serve with a shovel, you’ll get "bored" more quickly and ultimately eat less.

3.  Use candles
— heck, who doesn’t want a candelight dinner — particularly when doing so can help slash belly fat!  And it’s not because you’ll eat less to impress your date, it’s because research shows that those who eat in a nicer setting practice more portion control.

4.  Serve individual portions, not family style
— when you have the option to go back for seconds and thirds, you will (think Thanksgiving).

5.  Brush your teeth — well, hopefully you’re doing that now — but do so immediately after each meal (and snack) to incinerate belly fat.  More food, or dessert, won’t sound so appealing with minty fresh breath (and your company will like it too).

6.  Eat with your non dominant hand
– seriously.  Go ahead and try.  It’s great for your mind, but will also slow down the speed you eat, which correlates to less belly fat in the long run.

7.  Surround yourself with positive, active, healthy people –  1 simple strategy is is sure to keep belly fat at bay.  Research shows WHO you spend time with will dictate fat loss success.

As you can see, these 7 simple belly fat breakthroughs couldn’t be easier.

These are each baby steps.  I didn’t say don’t eat X.  I didn’t say go out and start running now. When added together, these will all help you reach your ultimate goals … lose belly fat, maintain that healthy body, and have more energy than 6 year old child on a sugar high.

Point 6 – this one will work in the US and Canada where people fork everything in using their right hand (the right-handed folks that is). In Europe that won’t work, as we eat with both hands: knife in the right (dominant) and fork in the other.

Point 1 – apparently eating off of blue plates reduces appetite and, well, I guess belly fat. Not that I ever found this to be true :)

#5 is 100% true! I always have gum or those little disposable toothbrushes with me, and not only am I less likely to eat anything after brushing or chewing, but the mint flavor always makes me want to drink water! I guess it’s a Pavlovian response to toothpaste – when I was a kid, it was always brush your teeth and drink your water before bed or before school.

To build on #3, I’ve also found that I tend to eat slower, reduce portions and drink more water when there’s a nice tablecloth on the table. I’d rather take my time working my way through dinner and have water with the meal than spend hours trying to get stains out!

These were great strategies!! Thank you!!!

One thing that has helped me is planning for that inevitable mid-afternoon “slump.” I used to find myself eating when I hit the wall in an attempt to feel more alert. Now, I know pretty much when to expect it and I plan better for it. I try to get outside for a few minutes, have a cup of coffee, maybe even close my eyes for a cat nap (oh, the joy!)…or plan a healthful snack. I have avoided alot of useless and empty calories by addressing the problem more positively. : )

Thanks for these great tips! Knowledge is power, and all of the information that you share helps me to make better choices. I really am working on learning to eat only when I am hungry, not when I am tired, bored, stressed, etc. I will drink a cup of hot green tea or a glass of water or distract myself with a household chore, work, reading, etc., and if I still am hungry 20-30 minutes later, I will re-evaluate and choose a healthy snack. Also, I find that if I eat every 3-4 hours, it helps me stay on top of the cravings and mindless snacking.

and guess what I can do either if I am hungry enough. Ha! Ha! Thanks for

I have found smaller plates REALLY help, but most important to me is #7. If you hang with couch potatoes you WILL become one too!

Thanks for all the motivation, it really helps keep things in perspective. I no longer feel like I am the only one struggling to make lasting changes.

I can testify that the smaller plate thing works. Even my Grandmother used that one, back when she had 9 kids to feed! Why did we Americans ever start producing such LARGE dinner plates?? No wonder we are all overweight with belly fat! I think mine are collecting dust, or we occasionally use them as a serving plate.
And yes, the brushing the teeth thing works well too. There is just something about that taste of wintergreen or spearmint that just doesn’t quite go with anything else, so I don’t want to “contaminate” my clean mouth.
    Keep it comin’, guys!
